Nonna Rosa App

The Nonna Rosa App is a personal project designed to honor and preserve the culinary heritage of grandmothers worldwide. This app serves as a digital recipe book where users can discover, share, and recreate traditional recipes passed down through generations. The project involved creating a detailed prototype and wireframe of the app using Figma, focusing on user experience (UX) design principles to ensure a seamless and intuitive interface.

Objective

The goal of Nonna Rosa App is to create a user-friendly platform that celebrates the authenticity and nostalgia of home-cooked meals. The app is tailored for both tech-savvy users and older individuals who may not be as familiar with digital interfaces but want to share their treasured family recipes.

Design Process

  1. Research & Planning:

    • Conducted research on similar apps to identify gaps and opportunities.

    • Developed personas representing typical users, including elderly grandmothers and young adults interested in cooking.

    • Outlined key features such as recipe uploading, step-by-step instructions, video tutorials, and a community section for sharing and commenting on recipes.

  2. Wireframing:

    • Created low-fidelity wireframes to map out the app's structure, focusing on ease of navigation.

    • Designed key screens including the home page, recipe detail page, upload page, and user profile.

    • Iterated on the wireframes based on feedback, ensuring clarity and accessibility in all elements.

  3. Prototype Development:

    • Built a high-fidelity prototype in Figma, emphasizing a clean and welcoming design that resonates with the app's theme of warmth and tradition.

    • Implemented interactive components such as clickable buttons, scrollable recipe cards, and animated transitions to mimic real app behavior.

    • Tested the prototype with users from different age groups to gather insights and make necessary adjustments.

Key Components:

  • Recipe Cards:

    • Designed as the main element on the home screen, featuring an image of the dish, a brief description, and an option to view the full recipe.

  • Step-by-Step Instructions:

    • Organized into cards that guide users through each cooking step with the ability to view text or watch a short video.

  • Community Section:

    • Allows users to comment, share tips, and upload their versions of the recipes, fostering a sense of community.

  • Upload Feature:

    • Simplified process for users to add their recipes, with fields for ingredients, instructions, and an option to record a video.

Tools:

  • Figma:

    • Used for wireframing and prototyping, Figma's collaborative features allowed for efficient feedback and iteration.

    • The tool was instrumental in visualizing the app's flow and ensuring a consistent design language across all screens.

Outcome

The Nonna Rosa App is a heartfelt project aimed at preserving culinary traditions while embracing modern technology. The focus on user-friendly design ensures that it is accessible to a broad audience, from elderly users to younger generations. This project showcases my ability to blend cultural sensitivity with UX design, resulting in a product that is both functional and emotionally resonant.
